The Influence of Physical Education Teachers’ Competence in Sports Disciplines and Students’ Interest on Sports Achievment of State Junior High School in Dlanggu District

Abstract

The low level of sport achievement among public junior high school students in Dlanggu subdistrict compared to other regions in Mojokerto indicates problems in the quality of physical education learning, particulary related to Physical eduaction teachers’ competence in specific sports disciplines and students’ interest in physical education.This study aims to analyze the effect of physical eduaction teachers’ sport-discipline competence and students’ interest on students’ sport achievement. This research employed a quantitative ex post facto design with a sample of 51 high-achieving students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and achievement documentation and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that teacher’ sport-disciplines competence significantly influenced sport achievement (t=2.741; p=0.009), and students’ interest also had a significantly effect (t=3.215; p=0.002). Simultaneously, both variables significantly affected sports achievement (F=18.764; p=0.007; R²=0.188). The results indicate that physical education teachers’ sport-disciplines competences and students’ interest have a significant effect in students’ sport achievement, both partially and simultaneously. These findings conclude that improving and developing the quality of teacher’ sport-disciplines competence, as well as increasing students’ interest in physical education learning, play an important role in enhacing students’ sports achievement.
